Blue Moon in Aquarius

August 22nd is a rare 2nd full moon in Aquarius. On the first full moon back on July 23rd I had chosen art I thought I'd use for this full moon, but a lot has happened since then and it no longer resonated. This art by Alef Vernon really feels right, it's blue for one thing!

I have felt a lot of pressure lately, most of which I have no control over and that is hard. Learning to thrive in uncertainty has been a big lesson for many of us this past 18 months and its bloody uncomfortable. When I'm struggling, I turn to my practices (meditation, journaling and ritual), I call on my ancestors and the universe for guidance and solstice. This helps me come back to center and I have found myself really leaning into those practices these past weeks. Being balanced in yourself (Me) is needed to contribute to the whole (We). Caring for ourselves makes it possible to pour from our own bucket and participate in the greater community. Aquarius, the Water Bearer, is about humanity. The polar opposite of Leo, Aquarius stands back and looks at the bigger picture. Community, innovation and collective care are in the Aquarian realm.

Moon conjunct Jupiter and Uranus stationing retrograde

With the moon conjunct Jupiter, the greater benefic, this full moon feels like anything is possible and it is! Jupiter also rules excess and overabundance. This expansive energy can be a beautiful thing and it can lead to overdoing things as well. Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius and the planet of revolution is currently standing still as he stations retrograde. This focuses his electricity, adding an element of restlessness, it's like we need to be doing something now but maybe we're not 100% clear on what action to take. This is a good time to return (if we've strayed) to our practices/grounding exercises. Jupiter and Uranus bring opportunity and when we are balanced we are better prepared to take those opportunities and turn them into reality.

Full Moon Themes and Journal prompts

"Love and Compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive."

-Dalai Lama

Expansive, revolutionary, inventive and community are themes for this full moon. We are challenged to to think about our role in society and the contributions we make. Do we participate in what is easy because it is convenient? I am guilty of this and I know making small changes in how I operate can have an impact on my immediate world, local community and maybe even the bigger whole.

This full moon...

  • Make a list of things to shift over the next 6 months (or longer) that may be inconvenient but impactful.

  • Ask "How am I thinking globally and acting locally?"

  • What role do I play and am I fully living in that space?

For me, Aquarius rules my 5th house of creativity, play, romance and children. Children and creativity are fully being activated right now and embracing this part of my chart is both my challenge and my joy.
